One … Connected Completion

Is the number one, the loneliest number or the only number? “Take one step at a time”, we are told on the journey of life. “Take it one play at a time”, the athlete is told on the field or court during the game. “Focus on one thing at a time”, we tell ourselves or others when we are overwhelmed. One is not a lonely number or the only number but one is a special number due to the reality it creates. One connects self with the infinite.
Twins, triplets, quadruplets, and quintuplets are all born with fingerprints and DNA unique to the individual. And although majority of us are born alone even the most unfortunate are apart of family and bear resemblance and characteristics of others who came before. We all have heard “one thing leads to another,” and we may be familiar with the “butterfly effect” acknowledging one event can change the course of history.
As a child I watched my mother enjoy one of her favorite hobbies of putting together jigsaw puzzles. Completing a jigsaw puzzle requires a tremendous amount of patience and when completed, it creates a beautiful picture made from 500 to 1,000 pieces. In awe of the process I loved seeing my mother complete puzzle after puzzle. What I love about jigsaw puzzles is one picture is cut into many pieces and cannot be completed until all the pieces are put back together. If one piece is missing, the puzzle and the picture will not be complete.
A puzzle is defined as a toy, problem, or other device designed to amuse, by presenting difficulties to be solved by patient effort. In life we are faced with many puzzles to solve none more important than the ones we are a piece of. The best part of life is that we have the choice to connect and complete any picture we choose; achievement will always come with difficulties that will only be solved with patient effort. We must remember that all situations are presented for our amusement. I guess the statement “we will laugh about this later” makes a lot more sense now.
Smile, knowing whatever we choose to be apart of will not be complete with us. We may not be shaped the same, we may not look alike but just like any jigsaw puzzle no piece is the same shape or has the same picture. We are all a piece of a puzzle. What picture will you be apart of and complete?
